THE LISBON SESSION @ C-E-M – OPEN SEQUENCE – MOBILE MONUMENTS – IOANA GEORGESCU
The Lisbon Session @ C-e-m is an “open sequence” in the life of a new series, the Mobile Monuments. These projects are modular, site-sensitive and hybrid, multi-platform. They rely on the performing body as well as on “performing sites”. Lisbon is the next stop in an intercity adventure that started in Cairo and continued in Hong Kong, Montreal and Beijing. Two exhibitions in Cairo have set the tone for the Mobile Monuments : Water Monument, a floating video on river Nile and Dust Monument, a video installation with actions shot in the dust of an abandoned palace in Cairo. For this upcoming public presentation at C-e-m, I will mobilize my archives and the key aspects of my practice towards a video-performance-installation. Screening, projections and action will converge in one space. I will arrive projector in hand, visual sources and a body ready to react to the context. So expect a surprise !
IOANA GEORGESCU is a Montreal based artist and author. Her work is presented in North America, Asia, the Middle East and Europe in museums, galleries festivals, city streets, ruins and…on water. She has published two novels in French Évanouissement à Shinjuku and L’homme d’Asmara. She holds a Ph.D. in Aesthetics and has taught at McGill University. Body and site, memory, identity and displacement are at the core of her projects. The performances, videos, installations and novels are often interrelated, participating to “chain of reactions” projects. Most of them are process-based, interventionist and site-specific. In recent years, she has exposed at The Townhouse Gallery in Cairo and was part of Open at 798 Art Zone in Beijing. She was artist in residency at the Jogja National Museum and Performance Klub in Jogjakarta, Indonesia and at the Hangar Center of Visual Arts in Barcelona.
